The Race To Christmas
The Race to Christmas is back at Selby Golf Club! Join Under Par Golf Academy for eight weeks of five hole shootouts, giving junior golfers the chance to enjoy playing on the course, build confidence and compete with other juniors in their age group.
Played on a shortened course, each event is an opportunity to put those practice skills into action. Whether your junior is developing their game or enjoys a bit of friendly competition, the Race to Christmas is a great way to keep playing through the winter.
Competition Format
Five holes of friendly competition, confidence building and festive fun! Each Saturday, juniors take to the shortened course to put their skills into practice and compete against players in their age category.
A maximum of 10 shots per hole keeps play moving and gives everyone a fresh start on the next tee. Across the Race to Christmas, each player’s three lowest scores count towards their overall leaderboard total - so there’s always another opportunity to improve!
The Race to Christmas features four age categories: Under 8, Under 10, Under 12 and Over 12.
Each group has its own leaderboard, giving juniors the chance to compete with players of a similar age, build confidence and enjoy friendly competition. Every player’s three lowest scores count towards their category’s overall standings.
Our shortened course gives juniors an enjoyable challenge while helping them develop the skills that turn good shots into better scores.
For younger golfers, shorter holes make reaching the green more achievable and build confidence. For older, more experienced juniors, they provide an opportunity to sharpen wedge play, improve distance control and learn to take advantage of scoring opportunities.
Shorter holes still demand smart decisions, accurate shots and confident putting—valuable skills at every age.
Information for parents
Where is it?
All events take place at Selby Golf Club.
What should my junior bring?
Please bring golf clubs, suitable footwear and warm clothing. Contact Danny beforehand if your junior needs equipment.
Can my junior enter more than one event?
Yes. You can select one or multiple dates when registering.
What happens if the weather is poor?
Please check with the academy before travelling if conditions are uncertain. There is options that if the weather is bad we can run an interactive competition on Toptracer.
Which age category should I choose?
If you’re unsure which category applies, contact Danny before registering.
How does the scoring system work?
Your best three scores will be taken from your rounds to accumulate your overall score. If you want to play more than three rounds you can to try improve your score over the 8 weeks.
What happens on the last Saturday?
The last Saturday we will all gather in the clubhouse to announce the winners of each category, the kids to receive their Christmas gifts and to all share a festive drink together (adults that is!)
